Last year, TuneCore became one of the only independent digital music distributors to help artists get their music on TikTok. At the time, TikTok was becoming a popular way for fans to show off their favorite songs in the background of 15 second video clips. For users, TikTok presented a fun new opportunity to share content. For artists, TikTok presented a platform for discovery, engagement, and even virality.
Fast forward to Summer of 2020, TikTok is one of the most downloaded apps on the planet, soaring even further in popularity in the midst of a pandemic. It’s no surprise that TikTok gained so many new users during a time when people all over the world were sequestered to their homes: more free time plus a lot of creativity made way for a plethora of new content being uploaded and shared daily.
That’s why today we’re excited to announce a new development in our partnership with TikTok: the ability for TuneCore Artists to select the specific start time in their songs that they’d like to be uploaded to the platform and streamed when users select their song.
What does that mean? Previously, TuneCore Artists could send all of their songs to TikTok, but couldn’t dictate which selection of the song would be available when users chose it for their video post. Now, if there’s a specific verse/hook/chorus of a song you want to be highlighted, it’s up to you!
Featured when you begin distributing your releases, every time you upload a song within your dashboard, artists will see the opportunity to specify the start time (down to the second) each song will begin at when streamed in users’ videos.
As you begin to incorporate TikTok into your overall marketing plan as an artist, this new feature should help you highlight whichever section of your songs you think should stand out for fans on the platform.
